GUWAHATI: Assam Police will deploy special force to ensure that thelaw and order situation in the state remains under control in the wake of publication of final draft of the updated National Register of citizens (NRC), the deadline for which has been extended by the Supreme Court till July 30.
Informing this, the Director General of Assam Police, Kuladhar Saikia stated that several sensitive locations had been identified and special forces deployed in those areas.
He informed the media that special security plans had been drawn up involving several agencies for areas where names of many residents are not likely to feature in the final draft of the updated NRC.
The police are going to increase he personal security cover of the NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela. The Supreme Court which is monitoring the progress of the NRC updation process in the state, also has directed for additional police protection to the NRC State Coordinator.
The social media monitoring cell of Assam Police is keeping a close tab on social media platforms and is taking prompt action against any controversial posts that comes to its notice. “Our team is keeping an eye on social media. Whenever we are coming across such controversial posts and tweets the team is taking action against the wrongdoers,” DGP Saikia said.
Meanwhile, a high-level security review meeting was held at the conference hall of Cachar district Deputy Commissioner at Silchar in sensitive Barak Valley today.
The DGP Kuladhar Saikia, state Chief Secretary T Y Das, Deputy Commissioners and SPs of three districts of Barak Valley, higher officials of CRPF, CISF, Assam Rifles, BSF, ADGP (law & order) and Special DGP (SB), Pallab Bhattacharrya and other high-ranking officials attended the crucial meeting.
