School celebrates 50 years with poor infra
SHILLONG: Smit Higher Secondary School celebrated 50 years recently yet the poor infrastructure spoiled the school building as chunks of plastered cement fell off from the walls. An irked MLA from Nongkrem, Lambor Malngiang threatened to summon the officers of PWD department as well as the Education department to seek an explanation on the careless construction work. Malngiang said the shoddy construction work proves to be dangerous for the school children and said he will direct the education department as well as the PWD (Buildings) to repair the building.
IIM welcomes PG and fellow students of management
SHILLONG: The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong conducted the commencement ceremony for participants of the Post Graduate Programme in Management 2018-20 and Fellow Programme in Management 2018-2022 comprising of 181 and 4 respectively. The institute welcomed the 11th batch of PGP in the presence of honourable chief guest Satish Pai, Managing Director, Hindalco Industries. The 11th batch of PGP has 40% females and participants from eclectic academic background. The participants took the oath administered by Prof. Basav Roychoudhury, PGP Chairperson, IIM Shillong. Prof Roychoudhury enlightened the batch about the opportunities that lie ahead of them in their 2-year course. The wide array of electives offered, the course of independent study to pursue research, two-month internship and the study abroad programme to get international exposure were few of the important opportunities highlighted by him. IIM Shillong focuses on inclusivity and outreach and continues to touch the lives of poor and merotorious students.
BSF to hold medical seminar
Shillong: The Border Security Force will be holding a medical seminar at Ftr HQr BSF, Umpling, Shillong. The Composite Hospital BSF Shillong will be organising the medical seminar at BSF campus in Umpling on July 6. During the conference, the discussions will be on administrative issues concerning medical points on scientific session will be conducted in which Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is likely to be the Chief Guest of the event and doctors from different Composite Hospitals & FTR of BSF all over India will present the clinical presentation. Delegates from NEIGRIHMS, Civil Hospital and other institutes in the city.
BSF seizes gold biscuits
Shillong: BSF troops seized one gold biscuit weighing 100 grams and worth more than Rs 3.5 lakhs at Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills on Tuesday. The BSF spotted a suspected smuggler at the Indo-Bangladesh border and tried to stop him for interrogation to which the suspect fled and escaped to Bangladesh. On escaping, a packet containing the gold biscuit fell on the ground and was seized by the security forces. The BSF informed that the smuggler came from Bangladesh. The haul was handed over to the concerned authority. Earlier two gold biscuits were also retrieved from same area.
4th teachers’ body formed
TURA: With an aim to work at the district level, the South West Garo Hills Ampati 4th Teachers’ Association was constituted recently in a meeting.The new body elected Rawind M Sangma as President, MIntu Hajong as Vice President, Manseng R Marak as Secretary, Ziarul Haque as Joint Secretary, Terina Sangma as Accountant, Anje Sangma as Treasurer and Jeria D Sangma as Auditor along with two audit members, Bisati Hajong and Chonggin Marak besides 8 other executive members.
