SHILLONG: DoNER Minister, Jitendra Singh has asserted that the Centre would promote Behdienkhlam, the annual festival of the Pnar community of Jaintia Hills, in a big way.
Singh, who attended the concluding day of the festival in Jowai on Tuesday informed reporters that the Centre would promote the festival “physically, financially and also by providing logistic support.”
Earlier, he said the DoNER ministry has initiated the process of having a rotational camp secretariat in all the eight Northeastern states so that people from the region do not need to travel all the way to Delhi or to the DoNER headquarters.
“The ministry is at their door step and we are standing with people of the region in times of their merrymaking as well as any mishap,” he said.
Claiming that the BJP-led NDA government has accorded high priority to make the region better, he said that the Union Government has not confined itself to the development of the region only but also focused on cultural and social growth of the region.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has owned up Northeast through his personal outreach and visited the region almost 30 times in just four years, which is a record in itself.
“He has visited the region more than any Union minister in the past 65 years,” Singh said.
Reacting to a query, the DoNER minister said the law and order situation in the region has improved and the situation has changed in the past four to five years.
“Not just law and order, Northeast has seen improvement in regard to security and connectivity as well,” he said.
