TURA: Flash floods caused by heavy rains have reportedly washed away a two-year-old girl from South West Garo Hills on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 3 pm at Magurmari Village under Zikzak Block when the little girl had followed her father who had gone to take bath at a well located nearby. Police informed that the little girl was presumed to have been washed away while she was returning home alone, after she soon went missing and her slippers were found on the bank of a stream.

“When the mother saw that her daughter had followed her father, she was sent home alone. She went missing soon after that and the mother suspects that she must have been swept away as her slippers were found on the bank,” South West Garo Hills SP, Bobby Momin said.

Till the filing of this report police were yet to recover the body and a search is on by Fire Service and SDRF teams.

It may be mentioned that heavy rains which began on Sunday have continued to lash the region with only brief stoppages transforming even tiny streams into raging torrents all over Garo Hills. However, unlike other years major flood situations are yet to be reported from any part of Garo Hills so far.
