Shullai meets CM over non-payment of assistance to BPL families

SHILLONG: The BJP MLA from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai raised concern over the non-payment of monthly financial assistance to the BPL beneficiaries under Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Programme (CMSAP) in their respective bank account since March 2017.

In this connection, the BJP leader met the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday to inform him about the delayed payment. CMSAP is for the infirm, single mothers, widows and disabled.

He informed that the total numbers of beneficiaries covered under the scheme were 99, 552. For old-age pension, the total number of beneficiaries are 53, 573, there are 30, 284 beneficiaries for single mothers, disabled persons are 11, 695.

Shullai requested the CM to extend help and support to expedite the matter for early sanctioning of the pending payment.

He also requested the CM to enhance the present financial support from Rs 500 to Rs 2000 per month and the same be placed in the Cabinet meeting for approval for the welfare and interest of the poor BPL, beneficiaries of our state.
