TURA: Three persons behind the assault on a bank official of Chibinang SBI branch have handed themselves in to police on Friday.

The three accused, Silemon Sk, Salim Sk (both from Haribanga village) and Frizul Islam Sarkar of Bangalkata village were identified by police and notices were served on them compelling them to give themselves up before police.

The three accused had assaulted banking official of Chibinang branch, Sylvester Marak, when he came out of the bank for lunch on Thursday afternoon. Marak was grieviously assaulted by the three men who fled the scene. He had to be admitted at Phulbari government hospital due to the injuries sustained in the assault.

Following the incident police have beefed up security of the SBI branch which is facing immense problems from overcrowding.

Bank officials express concern that such instances of threat and assault are becoming a regular feature in many of its branches, particularly in the plain belt region.

Marak is not the first victim of assault in the Chibinang branch. Previously, its branch manager was assaulted by a group of criminals in the heart of Chibinang market. Trouble makers had, earlier too, stopped the branch from functioning after an argument with the bank’s security guard who objected to the attempts by some men to try and touch his service rifle.
