MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member, PN Syiem, on Friday inspected the Rangblang-Umdohlun-Phlangdiloin road in South West Khasi Hills District after receiving complaints from pressure groups and local political leaders.
The KHADC had sanctioned Rs 4.5 crore through the Centre’s Special Assistance scheme for minor repairing and blacktopping of some parts of the road which was in a dilapidated condition. “We have seen that there were lots of improvement in the road and we are satisfied with the portions which have been blacktopped, but we want to do better in the minor repair work by stones and top soil and make sure that proper canals should be there so that the road can benefit the people of the area,” Syiem said during the inspection.
Syiem was accompanied by KHADC chairman LG Nongsiej, Executive Member in-charge market Hadrian Lyngdoh and leaders of the KSU and LYWA.
The CEM admitted that repairing of the road with stones and top soil will not last long and therefore the road needs to be blacktopped. “In the second phase of the project during 2018-19, I hope will be able to sanction around Rs 5-6 crore and we will go for blacktopping of the road right from Mariem village and it will cover according to the funds available,” he added.
Syiem also instructed the contractor to repair again those portions of the road which are still in bad condition. “We will release the bill only after the people of the area, the pressure groups and the officials from both the District Council and PWD are satisfied with the work,” Syiem said.
