Juvenile home opened at Mawdiangdiang

SHILLONG: A juvenile home was inaugurated at Mawkasiang in Mawdiangdiang on Saturday and on the occasion, a sensitisation programme on the Juvenile Justice Act was organised by the Meghalaya High Court in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department.
Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya who was the chief guest, lauded the Social Welfare Department for completion of the new juvenile homes.
“We are to ensure that a congenial atmosphere is provided to the children so that they can improve upon themselves and come back to the mainstream and be the future of our nation,” he added.
He also urged the public to become responsible citizens and help those in need.
Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary in charge of the Social Welfare Department H Marwein read out a brief history of the juvenile home.
Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang, Judge and Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Meghalaya SR Sen, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya Y Tsering, Director General of Police, Meghalaya SB Singh, Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department T Dkhar were also present during the programme.
