Teachers unhappy with CM response on memo

TURA: Teachers under the banner of  Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) from Garo Hills have expressed unhappiness over the response of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to their query on action being taken with regard to their memorandum submitted recently.

The teachers had earlier on March 16 this year submitted a memorandum demanding ‘equal pay for equal work’. On Saturday last week the teachers met the Chief Minister at his residence in Tura to know about the developments with regard to the memorandum.

During their meeting the chief minister is said to have informed them that the memorandum has been sent to the Finance Department and further details are awaited from the concerned department.

“We are frustrated and unhappy with this reply. The services of many employees in other professions under the government have been upgraded. Why can’t the government do the same for us when we are only demanding for acceptance as full-fledged employees under the Meghalaya Government,” the general secretary of MUPSTA said.

Earlier, the previous government last year had examined the demands of the teachers comparing them with teachers of other neighboring states. However, there was no positive outcome and the change of government came in February this ye
