SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling has asked the Chief Secretary, Y. Tsering regarding the problems faced by the Public Works Department (PWD), West Jaintia Hills, over implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads bordering Assam.
Dohling found out about the issues during the district review meeting on July 5.
As per the Systematic Review System of various flagship programmes, the PWD officials highlighted their problems to the minister.
The officials said the PMGSY works could not be completed in time as the Assam government did not allow carrying out of the remaining works which is about 2.20 km and 1.60 km respectively.
Pointing out that it will hamper the pace of development, Dohling said there is an agreement to allow the developmental works to be carried out in the border areas between the Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills and his counterpart in Karbi Anglong.
The minister has directed the chief secretary to take up the matter with the Assam government to allow the construction of road from Jowai Khanduli to Mokairam (4.87 km) and Jowai Khanduli to Rtiangsanphaw (5.64 km) to be completed in time as per guidelines.
