JOWAI: Khasi Students’ Union, Jaintia Hills District Unit (KSU JHDU) met the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner on the issue of Entry and Exit Points and the constitution of District Task Force for proper checking of illegal migrants.
A delegation of the KSU JHDU activists led by its president and secretary, Ohibait Dkhar and Albinus Lamurong respectively demanded immediate constitution of the District Task Force and implementation of Entry and Exit points at Malidor under East Jaintia Hills District. “The failure of the District Administration to constitute the District Task Force under Clause 5(1) of the Meghalaya Resident and Security Act 2016 is nothing but a violation of the Act,” said Dkhar.
He also informed that Deputy Commissioner F.M. Dopth has assured the student’s organisation to look into the matter within a week.
The KSU JHDU informed that if the District Administration failed to do so, the organisation will have to find other option to check illegal migrants in the district. It may be also mentioned that the KSU central body has threatened the take over the issue of influx if the state government failed to set up exit and entry points in various pockets of the state.
Dilapidated bridge
Meanwhile, the students’ body has also demanded for conducting a joint inspection against the poor condition of the bridge across Manar River near Samasi village in the district.
The pressure group has stated that the bridge could collapse any moment adding “If the bridge collapses then many villages in the area will be completely disconnected from the District Headquarter causing inconvenient to the locals under Sumer Patorship.”
