SHILLONG: Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla said opposition to Aadhaar enrolment by beneficiaries under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) is a major challenge to the department.
Shylla said the state government will need a timeline for its implementation as it is challenging due to people’s opposition to Aadhaar enrolment. The minister met officials concerned to find out ways and means to make sure the beneficiaries are not deprived of the government schemes despite not possessing an Aadhaar card. “We have to work on it very hard and study the matter very well. We are still finding out an alternate solution,” he said.
The beneficiaries of the ICDS have not yet enrolled themselves for Aadhaar in the department and it is seeking extension with regard to enrolment. “We have asked for extension from the Centre,” he said.
