NONGSTOIN: Many HSPDP leaders or members joined the National People’s Party in Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency in West Khasi Hills on Saturday.
The HSPDP members under the leadership of World Champion Paliar, who was a candidate in the 2016 district council election, took the decision to shift allegiance as their leaders “failed to serve the people of the area”.
“We are not seeing any sign that HSPDP could bring change in our constituency, that is why we have decided to join NPP since the party has good leaders and it is serving the poor,” said Paliar at an NPP meeting at Rambrai.
He added that most of the HSPDP leaders who joined NPP were representing various villages in the constituency “and we will strengthen the party here before the district council election”.
MLA Macmillan Byrsat, who is the NPP president of West Khasi Hills district, welcomed the new members at the meeting. NPP state general secretary Setsingh Dkhar, party head in Rambrai-Jyrngam and Nongstoin secretary AL Syiem were also present.
“They joined us at the right time and I appreciate their decision since Rambrai Jyrngam constituency needs a lot of attention of the government for bringing development,” said Byrsat.
Syiem briefed about the party’s foundation and the way of thinking that the party put into practices.
