SHILLONG: The Public Accounts Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will deploy two teams in rural areas of the state to inspect the water schemes.
PAC member and Congress legislator HM Shangpliang on Monday said the Committee is concerned about the functioning of rural water supply schemes and has decided to give due attention to ensure proper drinking water supply in villages.
One team will visit the western range while the other team will focus on the water supply projects in the eastern range, he said.
“We want people to get the full benefit of water supply schemes and they can approach us with problems that they are facing,” he added.
With regards to Swachh Bharat Mission, the PAC has asked the department concerned to come up with more community toilets, especially in market areas. “Management of liquid and solid waste also needs to be taken care of,” he stated.
