SHILLONG: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association has demanded immediate release of pending salaries and arrears of SSA teachers. They threatened to agitate if their demand is not fulfilled.
In the statement, the association said the SSA teachers are facing various issues due to nonpayment of three-month salary and arrears for eight months for 2016-17.
Many teachers were unable to get admission for the 2nd year D.El.Ed course due to the delay in getting the salary, the statement said.
Earlier, the association had asked the government to release the pending salary and arrears at the earliest for the admission.
However, the government has not yet responded to the request.
‘We recently met the concerned authorities and the outcome was positive to some extent. Last month, the Centre released two-month salary but we have not received any so far,’ they said.
The state government is taking education as a priority area but we the teachers are not getting our dues, it added.
‘If the government fails to release the pending salaries and arrears immediately, we have no other option but to launch agitation all over Garo Hills,’ the teachers warned.
