SHILLONG: The Narpuh Border Area Joint Action Committee of Jaintia Hills has asked the State Government to reconsider the decision to shift the Community and Rural Development Block (C & RD Block) from Lumshnong to Wapung in East Jaintia Hills.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, secretary of the committee, Daiapherbha Lamare said, “We need to have the C & RD Block at Lumshnong. Although we are sure that 99.9 per cent Block office will be shifted to Wapung, we also deserve a C & RD Block.” The committee referred to the Meghalaya High Court order on June 6 which states, “After due consideration, decision shall be taken within a period of six weeks from the date of the copy of order is served upon the respondents. In the process, the petitioners along with other stakeholders shall be given proper opportunity of being heard and the larger public interest shall be kept in mind.”
Lamare said the government should have called the stakeholders for talks but till date they have not yet received any intimation to do so.“We could not get through the ministers in Shillong, although we made attempts to meet them,” he said. On the other hand, the committee has sent a representation-cum-objection to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to reconsider the decision to shifting the C & RD Block from Lumshnong to Wapung in accordance with the direction of the High Court of Meghalaya.
(Opposing the move to shift the Block to Wapung, Lamare said the committee wants the government to hear their views as there is a need to retain the Block at Lumshnong.
