TURA: Power Minister James Sangma reviewed the electricity supply scenario in Garo Hills region, which witnesses acute power shortage, on Wednesday.
Sangma said the 40 MVA bus at 132 KV Rongkhon sub-station was separated and this has reduced the power interruption on Tura-1 and Dakopgre feeders due to line faults occurring in the Garobadha-I and II feeders.
Also, construction of 33/11 KV 2.5 MVA sub-station at Praharinagar will further reduce power supply interruption at Dakopgre and Dobasipara areas, he added while mentioning about the measures to reduce interruptions in power supply.
The minister said the government was prioritising the issues of the power sector. Acknowledging the workload and tremendous pressure under which officials are working, he urged them to continue to provide good service to the people of the region. During the review meeting in Tura, superintendent engineer of T&T division in Tura presented the power map of 132 KV lines in the region, which comprises three grid substations at Nongalbibra, Rongkhon and Mendipathar. The superintendent engineer of MePDCL appraised the Minister about the causes for frequent power cuts in the region which is due to thick vegetation along the route of high and low tension lines, objections from owners in clearing the trees, shortage of manpower and long length of 33 KV and 11 KV lines. He said urban and rural feeders need to be separated. UN Madan, Director of Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, presented the activities and achievements undertaken by the agency in the region.
Sangma also visited the site for Ganol Small Hydro Project near Chibragre where he released the Day Lighting for 2-km long Head Race Tunnel of the said project.
The minister suggested that officials look into other means of generating energy like solar power, etc. for substitution of energy when necessity arises.
