SHILLONG: After PDF parliamentary party leader James Ban Basaiawmoit filed a case in the High Court of Meghalaya on July 13 to stay the election of KHADC Chief Executive Member HS Shylla, another petition moved by Grace Mary Kharpuri, the contender for the CEM post, was taken up on Friday.
Kharpuri was the CEM candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance while Shylla represented the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance coalition. However, Kharpuri and her supporters abstained from voting on July 13 when the election to the post of CEM was held.
She filed the petition challenging the election process.
Like the case filed by Basaiawmoit, Kharpuri’s petition had also challenged the July 12 notification of the governor fixing the date for election of the CEM on July 13.
After hearing the petition by Kharpuri on Friday, the court decided to hear the matter on Tuesday.
The pending case filed by Basaiawmoit will also be taken up on the same day.
Advocate K Paul represented the petitioner while the respondents were represented by senior government advocate K Khan, senior advocate VGK Kynta and advocate PS Nongbri.
