SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills police has justified summons to some people who were part of the stone-pelting mob following the Them Iew Mawlong incident.
KSU had criticised the police for summoning only the locals and not the residents of Sweepers’ Lane.
Talking to media persons here on Monday, district police SP Davis Marak said the summons were sent to those who were part of the unlawful assembly, stone pelting and arson in the city on the basis of photographs and videos where certain people have been identified.
Marak informed that only individuals and not any organisations have been summoned.
Police have also issued notices to those who uploaded provocative posts on Facebook and other social media platforms.
According to Marak, more than 50 notices have been issued to people under Section 41 (A) of the CrPC to clarify if they have posted such provocative posts and if not, then who posted them.
“If their culpability is established, law will take its course and legal procedures will be initiated,” he added.
The police will issue more notices after more people are identified.
