SHILLONG: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong will conduct the third edition of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Lecture Series on Friday to mark the third death anniversary of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Renowned physicist, Padma Bhushan Bikash Sinha will grace the event as the chief guest and deliver a lecture on ‘The Beauty and Aesthetics in Science’.
‘Creating a Liveable Planet Earth’ was the last lecture delivered by APJ Abdul Kalam also known as India’s Missile Man at IIM-Shillong on July 27, 2015.
The lecture series was initiated in 2016 in his memory. Eminent personalities like Manas K Mandal, Director General – Life Sciences, DRDO and Padma Vibhushan G Madhavan Nair, former Chairman, ISRO have delivered lectures in the past.
Inspired by the teachings and values of Dr. Kalam, students of IIM Shillong started Nurturing Minds in 2015 with an aim to encourage learning and creativity amongst underprivileged children in Shillong.
IIM Shillong which has also set up the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis will hold its first meeting at IIM Shillong on the same day.
The centre is designed to serve as a knowledge partner for policy formation for the North east in relation to six critical sectors such as tourism, logistics, horticulture, handloom, handicraft and BPO.
The centre will work in collaboration with Institutions like North Eastern Council (NEC), Department of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the state governments whose key representatives are expected to be present at the meeting.
