SHILLONG: With the unemployment graph in the state registering a vertical growth, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has asked various government departments to properly advertise and publicise self-employment schemes of the government for the benefit of the youth.
Shullai on Friday held discussions with officials of as many as 28 departments and banks in the city to raise awareness on various self-employment schemes of the government.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shullai said unemployment is not a state phenomenon anymore but it a national and global concern. “It is very difficult to get a government job today”, he added.
The self-employment schemes in different government departments will help the unemployed youths of the state, he said, while lamenting that these schemes are not being advertised or brought to the notice of the local people and hence there is a lack of knowledge about it.
He informed that the departments have been directed to furnish the guidelines and funds available for the various schemes within one week.“The departments will soon furnish the guidelines on how to apply for these various schemes and only then we will be able to take things forward by creating awareness at the Dorbar level”, he said.
Pointing out to the alarming level of unemployment, he recalled that last year there were nine Grade IV posts advertised in one of the government departments and around 18,000 candidates had applied for the same.
