TURA: Garo Hills organizations including the Tengsak led GSU CEC, AYWO and FKJGP have questioned the decision of the MPSC to cancel the selection of candidates for recruitment to vacant posts at Food Craft Institute (FCI) in Tura.
According to the organizations, the MPSC had invited applications from genuine citizens of India for appointment to two posts of Assistant Lecturers at FCI, Tura. And while 20 candidates were selected to appear for the interview on June 27 at Shillong, their candidatures were later declared ineligible for the posts.
“We are perturbed by the fact that twenty candidates were selected for the interview based supposedly on the eligibility of their candidature but later declared ineligible for the post. The question arises why the hopeful aspirants were asked to appear for the interview when it was known that they are probably not eligible for the post. Is the whole interview a whitewash, an intended subterfuge? Were two persons already selected clandestinely for the post but due to wrong calculations and circumstances unable to be effected?” the organizations asked.
In their letter to the Chairman of the MPSC, the organizations informed that during their checking of the credentials of 12 Garo candidates who were among those selected, it was found that some of them fulfilled the criteria and were eligible for the posts.
The organizations also questioned the fact that despite Meghalaya having the Job Reservation Policy, the MPSC had invited ‘genuine citizens of India’ when there were only two post and hinted at manipulation taking place.
“There were rumours doing the rounds in the two weeks or so before the conduct of the interview that the interview will be cancelled because two candidates chosen clandestinely for the vacant posts have opted for a different employment opportunity. The warning came true and the candidates have been declared ineligible despite appearing for the interview,” they alleged.
Pointing out that time and money of the candidates have been unnecessary wasted, the organizations while condemning the MPSC for the move demanded that the two most eligible candidates are selected and appointed as Assistant Lecturers of FCI in line with the reservation policy.
Warning that the matter would be pursued at the highest level, the organizations said that they would not hesitate to agitate if their demand remains unfulfilled.
