James launches e-Prison software

Jowai: Minister for Home James P. K Sangma on launched the e- Prison Software and Meghalaya Prisons Website at District Jail, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills on Monday.
Director General of Prison, R. P Aggrawal, West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, Additional Superintendent of Police P.Syiem, Additional State Informatics Officer Sekhar Dey, State Information Officer Timothy Dkhar          , Secretary District Legal Service Authority D.S Marbaniang and officers of the Prison Department were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Sangma said the government is keen on bringing in technology into governance and in other fields as technology has become an absolute necessity. He said the government is committed and will be pushing forward to bring on technology to streamline governance, to make governance more accessible to people and to ensure that governance is carried out in the way meant.
He lauded the initiative and efforts taken by the Director General for Prison in implementing the e-Prison system, assuring full support for the endeavor taken towards reformation of the prisoners.
He hopes that with the launching and implementation of this software it will bring about visible change in the way the prisons are run and it will helped reform the prisoners go back to the society as better citizens and contribute positively to the society.
Earlier the D G of Prison informed that the project hopes to computerize and integrate all activities related to prison and prison management. The system will also pro-vide infor-mation about inmates to jail official while the public can also log in the website and see how many prisoners or inmates are there in all parts of the State.
