Prasad, Sangma condole death of ex-governor

SHILLONG: Bhishma Narain Singh, who served as the governor of Meghalaya, Assam and Tamil Nadu, passed away in Delhi on Wednesday. He was 85.
Condoling the death of the late governor, Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad on Thursday said in his death, the nation has lost a respected leader, a distinguished parliamentarian, an able administrator and a fine gentleman.
The governor said his numerous contributions will be long remembered by the people. He also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said he was saddened to hear about the passing away of former governor and Union Minister Bhishma Narain Singh.
“On behalf of the people of Meghalaya, I send our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family members,” Sangma said.
The chief minister said Singh will be remembered for the establishment of sports infrastructure for holding the IXth Asian Games in New Delhi, and ensuring its completion in record time besides his contribution to the signing of the historic Assam Accord between the Centre, the Assam government and the All Assam Students’ Union.
“He will be remembered for his valuable contributions in Meghalaya,” Sangma added.
