SHILLONG: The first ever private infant feeding station in Meghalaya, an initiative of Ashim H.D Lakiang, was launched on Saturday on GS Road in Umran
The bold and unique initiative aims to ensure a private space for breastfeeding and toiletry assistance. Strategically located, the feeding station serves as a convenience for the state’s outbound travellers and inbound tourists.
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from August 1 to 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. This year the campaign reinforces the importance of working together to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
The facility is a premiere launch of the nationwide campaign Mother and Mother’s Affection (M.A.M.A) to advocate for setting up infant feeding stations in all public places.
It is a first of it’s kind in the North East and is conceptualised and executed by The Circus Entertainment- a national marketing and events company with its presence in Shillong.
Co-founder Smita Chettri Thomas, a native of the city reiterates the confidence that this public utility which is open to all and running throughout the year will manifest the basic need to ensure health and hygiene to mothers and their infants, as captioned in the campaign -that even babies need their private dining affair.
