Seminar on importance of good posture in office
SHILLONG: The Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) Women cell, Meghalaya held a seminar to educate the bankers on the importance of good posture and designing the work station that will allow a more comfortable working environment. The seminar aimed to create awareness of the importance of Physiotherapy as a profession in this state. The IAP, women cell held a seminar on the “ Ergonomics advice for desk job workers” at the State Bank of India, zonal office, Dhanketi on August 3 for the staff of SBI, which was also the 1st National activity organised by the Indian Association of Physiotherapists Women Cell Meghalaya. The Chief Guest was E.K.Singh a well known orthopaedician of the state, also present was the Deputy General Manager of SBI, Subhash Das and the Assistant General Manager of SBI, Vijay Shetty. Singh spoke on the importance of posture and its effects which further interferes with the productivity and work efficiency in the long run and stressed on the fact that early intervention of physiotherapy is effective in reducing pain and musculoskeletal disorders. Das, the DGM of SBI was optimistic that the activity was able to impart knowledge which will be beneficial to his staff.
RBYF to bar vehicles from

entering MIDC
SHILLONG: The Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) will bar vehicles from entering factories in Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Umiam unit due to the issues regarding to trading license, labour daily wages, labour quarters, sanitation conditions. The organisation has decided to not allow vehicles to unload wood from August 13 to August 27.

Motivational lecture by army for NCC cadets
Shillong: A motivational lecture to “Join Indian Army” was delivered under the aegis of Headquarters Recruiting Zone, Shillong by Director Recruiting (Headquarters), Shillong for the cadets of 2 Megh Bn NCC undergoing Annual Camp at Umroi Cantt, Ri-Bhoi District. It was organised to generate awareness amongst students about the eligibility criteria, various types of entry schemes, pay and emoluments, training and various career options available in the Indian Army. 400 NCC cadets were present. A separate information cell was also established wherein the cadets were distributed with various information leaflets, bookmarks, calendars & diaries etc. It was followed by an interactive session where queries of the cadets were answered.

Health and Wellness Centres
Shillong:  The District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District has informed that under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Health and Wellness Centres at Jongksha Public Health Centre will be inaugurated by Minister, Sports and Youth Affairs B. Lyngdoh while at Pomlum Public Health Centre it will be inaugurated by MLA S.K. Sunn, MLA on August 11. It may be mentioned here that Ayushman Bharat Yojana which was launched by the Prime Minister of India aims to transform Sub centres and Primary Health Centres into Health and Wellness Centres in the country for implementing public health programmes, better comprehensive primary health care service delivery including diseases prevention and health promotion.

Workshop on springsheds
NONGSTOIN: A one-day workshop on springsheds was organised by the  District Watershed Cell Cum Data Centre, West Khasi Hills District Nongstoin on Tuesday at Bishop Hall Nongstoin. The main objective of the programme was inventorisation, survey, mapping data collection for springs monitoring, springshed management its importance, improvement and rejuvenation of springs and interventions for springshed rejuvenation. The target group for the workshop is for the initial 40 number of springshed for the pilot project in West Khasi Hills. The project is drawn from villages in the four Blocks which include the representative of the villages i.e the Sordar (Headmen), Secretaries, the land owners of the recharge zone and the users of those springs as it is very important to achieve the participation of all the stake holders to attain the objectives. The programme was also organised for capacity building of the para-hydro geologists appointed for the purpose of collection of data’s right from pre-treatment of springs during the intervention activities and the post project behaviour of springs.
