SHILLONG: The state government will now provide free medicines for various ailments under a new drug policy.
Addressing reporters, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the policy has been adopted in line with the Free Drug Policy launched by the Centre.
Under the policy, 72 types of medicines — like Calcium plus, Vitamin D3 drops and cough syrups — will be provided free of cost to all government hospitals, including CHCs, PHCs and health sub-centres.
The funding pattern for the policy will be 90:10 under the National Health Mission.
