Join Army, Capt Clifford’s batch-mate urges students
SHILLONG: Lt. Colonel Sandeep Ahlawat from Hisar Cantonment delivered a motivational speech to the students of St. Anthony’s College on Friday, urging the students to join the Indian Army. Ahlawat, a batch-mate of late Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, was here to fulfil Nongrum’s last wish by delivering a speech in his college. As many as 600 students attended the session where the lieutenant spoke about the role of the Indian Army in nation building. He spoke about the job opportunities in the technical and non-technical wings of the army and also explained the opportunities available for girls. Five other course-mates of Late Capt Clifford, who had come all the way from Delhi, also attended the session. Others who were present at the programme included Late Capt Clifford’s parents.

RKM prize distribution today
SHILLONG: The prize distribution ceremony of 44th Annual Cultural Competition organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong will be held on Saturday from 3:00 pm onwards at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Quinton Road, Shillong. Prof. H. Lamin, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NEHU will attend as the chief guest of the programme.

Prohibition notice
NONGSTOIN: The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District has imposed an order under Section 144, CrPC in the whole of the West Khasi Hills District prohibiting of fishing nets, using chemicals to kill fishes at River Riangdo, Pormawlai, illegal cutting trees and bamboos and intentionally causing forest fires in the Reserved Forest and Community nursery of the Joint Forest Management committee, Pormawlai. This order will come into force with immediate effect until further order.

Condolence
SHILLONG: State BJP unit has condoled the death of Moon Pyrbot and remembered his contribution to the party. In a press release on Friday, the party held a condolence meeting on Friday at the party office where a two-minute silence was observed.

WGH bans drinking in public
TURA: Following reports of alcohol consumption taking place openly in many places of importance in and around Tura Town, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has issued an order prohibiting the same in public places, parking lots, construction sites, thoroughfares etc. The order will come into immediate effect in the entire West Garo Hills District whereby violation of the order will award penalty of Rs 5,000 per person and in case of repeated offences, additional fines, which may extend to Rs 15,000 per person.

One killed in accident
SHILLONG : A person was killed in a road accident on Thursday. The victim, Pynskhemlang Kharbudnah (23), was killed when the car in which he was travelling, hit an oil tanker at Nongkasen. 108 Nongstoin ambulance team shifted the victim to hospital. There were a series of hit and run cases reported for the last few days and several persons were injured.

Ex-rebels meet James over delayed rehab package

TURA/SHILLONG: Former members of the ANVC (B) from North Garo Hills on Thursday met Meghalaya Home Minister, James K Sangma to inquire about the delay in releasing their rehabilitation package.
During the meeting Sangma is said to have assured them that the matter would be looked into.
