NONGPOH: The Seng Samla Shnong of Umlangpur Killing has opposed the move of people belonging to Kuki tribe to buy land in the village.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, president and secretary of the Seng Samla Umlangpur Killing, Bisharlang Rupsi and Jingshai Lamin respectively said the Seng Samla after knowing the move, held an emergency meeting in the village recently and opposed it.
They also said the main reason as to why they are against this particular deal is because of the information they had received which said that people belonging to Kuki tribes intent to buy a huge plot of land at Umlangpur Killing in order to build 100 houses.
“As responsible youths of the village, we are against this deal and if the Durbar Shnong allows them to buy land in our village, they will soon outnumber us, and we will be left as minority in our own villages,” the two leaders said.
They also urged the Ri Bhoi district administration not to allow the land deal which will have a negative impact on the future of the local residents of the village and the district as a whole.
