GUWAHATI: Assam police have geared up security in the run-up to Independence Day in coordination with state police forces of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland to prevent inter-state movements of militants having intention to carry out hit and run strikes in Assam.
Director General of Assam Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia got in touch with his counterparts in the neighbouring states to fine tune the coordination with the police forces of the neighbouring states.
SPs in all the districts of the state have also been put on maximum.
Three security rings have been set up in and around Khanapara Playground in Guwahati city. There will be a security ring inside the venue, one outside the venue and the third one on the hills surrounding the venue.
Meanwhile, Saikia on Saturday stated that the state police were not much worried about reported upsurge in activities of Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) as Assam police have already been maintaining vigil against the JMB activities, if any, in the state.
The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) and its ally Coordination Committee (Core Com), a banner organisation of militant groups of Manipur have called for a boycott and general strike on Independence Day in the region.
