Free health camp organised in Kongthong

SHILLONG: An NGO called Go North East has organised a health camp at Kongthong, East Khasi Hills.
The village, which is known for its unique tradition of having tunes associated to each of the clan members in the village, (jingrwai lawbei), suffers with major health issues like skin infection, stomach disorder, hygiene and others.
On visiting the village, the NGO members found out that residents of Kongthong do not have basic amenities of health care, education and infrastructure. The nearest public health centre is in Khrang (20 min) away and is derive of doctor for most parts of the week. The Go North East members put a team of five doctors led by Dr. Nitu Deka from Assam successfully conducted the camp to help the villagers of Kongthong and its adjacent villages.
