TURA: The 4th Foundation Day of the Toksan Area Level Federation, an SHG under Rongram C&RD Block was celebrated at Leprosy Colony in Tura recently.

District Project Manager of DRDA in Tura, Rakseng R Marak was the Chief Guest on the occasion while former ANVC (B) Chairman, Bernard Rimpu N Marak was the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest informed about the many different schemes and funds of the government which will benefit the SHGs shortly. Recalling the recent announcement by the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Guest informed that for all government meetings and programmes in the future, products made by SHGs will be used to serve refreshments, which will uplift the SHGs.

Guest of honour, Bernard Rimpu N Marak said that there were many schemes and funds released by the Central government for SHGs through blocks and other departments which on many occasions have mysteriously vanished. He questioned if anyone of them had tried to inquire about the schemes and whether all of them had ever been benefited. He urged them to wake up and act so that they are not deprived of their rights.

The Nokma of Leper Colony also spoke a few words where he encouraged the women to form more self help groups.
