Rumour mongering raises its ugly head in Garo Hills

TURA: False stories about people being abducted and decapitated are doing the rounds in East Garo Hills prompting police to issue a strong warning of stern action against those behind these rumours.

East Garo Hills police have advised citizens to report to the nearest police station anyone spreading rumours about abductions and killings.

“It has come to our notice that rumours about a group of unknown people roaming around and killing people by decapitating them is being spread in various social media groups which is bound to cause fear and panic in the minds of the general public. Spreading false rumours with mischievous intent may lead to the breakdown of law and order in the district and, hence, all concerned are requested to refrain from spreading false information. Any information regarding the matter should be reported to the nearest police station or outpost for proper verification and further necessary action,” stated the advisory issued by Garo Hills police.
