WGH DC flags off I-Day freedom run

TURA: West Garo Hills DC, Ram Singh, on Tuesday morning flagged off the Independence Day run at Chandmary Playground in Tura in the run up to the celebrations. The Freedom Run which was organised by the District Sports Office in collaboration with the District Administration concluded at the Dikki Bandi Stadium at Dakopgre.
In his brief address after the run, Singh congratulated all the runners who participated and said that it did not matter whether one wins or lose but what matters was participation.
Earlier, cleaning drives wre also conducted by different departments of the district at their respective office premises on Monday as a run up preparation for the Independence Day celebration.
Meanwhile, a cleanliness awareness campaign across the country, as many as 200-odd NSS volunteers peaked with a rally around Tura town on Tuesday.
Holding banners and placards on the theme “Clean India, Happy and Healthy India”, the volunteers began an hour and a half rally from Don Bosco College passing through the Missionaries of Charity campus to Chandmari and back via the main road.NSS Volunteers raising slogans in English, Hindi and Garo urging the public to do away with plastic.
They shouted slogans such as “no more plastic” and ‘plastic hatao duniya bachao’.
