GUWAHATI: The ILP Issue Committee of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has decided to suspend the first phase of the statewide “Operation Clean Drive” against illegal immigrants and inner line permit (ILP) violators.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the union’s convener and chairman of the Operation Clean Drive, Tatung Taga said that the operation which was launched on Friday saw the detection of 2,205 ILP violators across the state according to the reports submitted by the federal units of AAPSU in the districts.
“However, some of the area in-charges and district students’ unions are yet to submit the reports due to communication problems. After their official submission, the figures of ILP violators shall increase,” Taga said.
“These violators should be immediately deported from the state and necessary action should be initiated under the provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act, 1873,” he said.
“There are also apprehensions and reports from various districts that ILP violators caught during the “Operation Clean Drive” are being let off without any action. The authorities concerned should look into it with the right earnest,” Taga added.
The date for initiating phase two of the drive would be taken in a consultative meeting with all the district students unions (DSUs) scheduled on August 23. The meet would decide the future course of discussions and action.
Taga further informed that representatives of the ILP Issue Committee, AAPSU would also meet the state government representatives to discuss the issue.
“It has also come to the knowledge of the union during the drive that various shopkeepers and brokers were involved in issuing fake ILPs. Strict action should be launched against them,” he said.
AAPSU acknowledged the support and cooperation of the administration, police and citizens during the operation.
