TURA: In a typical case of moral policing, a tribal woman and her non-tribal lover were trashed by a group  of villagers in remote Tikrikilla region of west Garo Hills on Sunday night.

The couple, who were apparently in a relationship, was targeted by the angry villagers who objected to their liaisons. They reportedly caught the couple on Sunday night and gave them a severe beating before leaving with a warning.

The assault was also uploaded on social media by one of the perpetrators which was soon notified to authorities by some viewers. However, the injured couple have refused to file a police complaint in fear of further reprisals but police have registered a  suo moto case to find those behind the assault.
