TURA: Undying efforts of police to trace a kidnapping victim from a village under Chokpot police station in South Garo Hills has enabled a 12-year-old minor girl to return home and reunite with her family after six long years and resulted in the arrest of her kidnapper.

Riksilchi Marak from Papa Asakgre under Chokpot was a mere six year old when her cousin along with her husband, Dibesh Sangma kidnapped her in the year 2013. Soon after the child went missing, the kidnapping couple also absconded from their home in the same village and all efforts to trace them by the family and police went in vain.

Police sources informed that It was only last week when the couple returned home without the child after many years that they went into action and took them in for questioning, where they revealed that the girl was working as a maid in Byrnihat. With the location of the kidnapped victim known, police along with the child’s father went to Byrnihat and brought her back home.

According to police, the victim was rescued from a family at a Garo dominated locality in Byrnihat, where she had been living after the family took her in seeing the ill-treatment she got from the couple.

One of the kidnappers, Dibesh Sangma was immediately arrested but police have differed arresting the wife as she is seven months pregnant and also has three young children. However, cases have already been filed against both the accused.
