SHILLONG: NPP has ruled out differences in the MDA coalition over the partners, UDP and PDF, fielding separate candidates in Ranikor.
“We are running the government equally. We are all together under the umbrella of MDA led by NPP,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Monday.
Tynsong reiterated that Meghalaya is an example of real democracy since coalition partners are free to contest the election.
The deputy chief minister said it was already decided that coalition partners were free to put up their candidates for Ranikor.
Regarding South Tura, Tynsong said since Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has to lead the MPA government till the end of the term, all the coalition partners are supporting him in the by-poll to South Tura.
To a question, Tynsong said it was up to the voters to decide on the candidates.
No anti-incumbency
Tynsong also said there is no anti-incumbency in Ranikor, which was represented by MM Danggo for five terms.
“If there was any anti-incumbency, Danggo would not have been elected in the February 27 Assembly polls,” Tynsong said.
