SHILLONG: The Congress has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP-led NDA government for not willing to take foreign donations for the flood relief work in Kerala.
Many nations have come forward to support Kerala affected by prolonged flood and the UAE had offered Rs 700 crore.
“If Modi and the BJP-led NDA government do not want to accept foreign donations, let them give at least Rs 2,000 crore to Kerala, instead of Rs 600 crore which has already been released,” said the Opposition chief whip and Congress legislator PT Sawkmie.
Former Kerala chief minister Ommen Chandy had also termed the release of Rs 600 crore by the Centre as disappointing in the context of the magnitude of the crisis.
According to the initial assessment, the damage due to the flood is estimated to be around Rs 20,000 crore.
