SHILLONG: A delegation of different organisations from Garo Hill has urged Meghalaya’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, A.L. Hek for equal distribution of seats as per defined system of state quota distribution for MBBS candidates in NEIGHRIMS.

Stating that nine seats are allotted in NEIGHRIMS for candidates from Meghalaya, the organisations pointed out that not a single seat has been allotted under Garo category for 2018-2019 session.

The leaders included Elbert Marak president of All India Garo Union, Fremiush D. Sangma from Garo Students Union (Khasi Hills Zone) and a youth leader, Rinaldo K. Sangma said five  seats were for Khasi & Jaintia category and four seats for Garo category in 2016-17 session.

Again, in 2017-18 academic session, there were seven seats for Khasi & Jaintia category and two seats for Garo category.

The organisations have requested Hek to look into the matter and direct the concerned authorities to rectify the issue pertaining to distribution of seats as per defined system of state quota distribution.
