SHILLONG: A group of Garo organisations has petitioned Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek requesting equal distribution of seats as per the defined quota system for MBBS candidates in NEIGRIHMS.
Stating that nine seats are allotted in NEIGRIHMS for candidates from Meghalaya, the organisations pointed out that not a single seat has been allotted under Garo category for 2018-2019 academic session.
They also said five seats were for Khasi and Jaintia category and four for Garo category in 2016-17.
Again in 2017-18, there were seven seats for Khasi and Jaintia category and two for Garos.
The Garo leaders — which included Elbert Marak, president of All India Garo Union, Fremiush D Sangma from Garo Students Union (Khasi Hills Zone) and a youth leader, Rinaldo K Sangma — have requested Hek to look into the matter and direct the authorities concerned to rectify the issue pertaining to distribution of seats as per the defined system of state quota distribution.
