SHILLONG: Jinberth R Marak, GHADC MDC from Amongpara in West Garo Hills, has said his party, the Garo National Council, served him termination letter without informing him.
In a statement to the media, Marak said he served the party for more than 20 years but he was not given a chance to speak on the alleged anti-party activities for which he was terminated from the party on August 20.
“I have not received any written complaint against myself nor was I made aware of any act which, according to the concerned party, is anti-party activity,” he said, adding, “If any act of mine had dissatisfied or hurt the party’s sentiment, then it is the duty of the concerned party to correct me or inform me of the same but no such thing was ever sought.”
He alleged that he was being framed by people with vested interest within the party “for questioning some of their acts which they did without prior consultation with party members”.
Marak said last year, GNC MDC from Silkigre Augustine R Marak complained against him and another MDC without consulting the party, “which is also anti-party” but no action was taken against him. Marak pointed out that the decision to terminate his membership was taken in a meeting held on August 18. The decision was taken to terminate two more MDCs — Boston Ch. Marak and Wenison Ch. Marak.
“Boston Ch. Marak had already defected the party by joining United Democratic Party but Wenison Ch Marak and I never defected. But only I was served with termination letter,” he said.
Marak also alleged that during the February election, Augustine made alliance with BJP without consulting the party and took huge amount. “This later came to my knowledge from reliable sources, after which I raised question about his anti-party activities, but no action was taken against him,” he said and added that it was a biased action.
