SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP) MLA, Jirang constituency Sosthenes Sohtun urged the Chief Engineer of Meghalaya Electric Corporation Limited (MeECL) to make a spot inspection of areas prone to electrical accidents and those require electrification.

He also expressed concern that villages he had come across in his tours had not yet attained full electrification as ensured by the state government.

Sohtun also pointed out that most of the electrical transformers were overloaded which results in power cuts.

Moreover, he said there were worn out wires, rusted and bent poles, which he observed were cause  of accidents.

He pointed to an incident at Lumnongrim, Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi District in which a girl suffered burnt injuries due to an unattended overhead electrical wire lying on ground surface.
