SHILLONG: Ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in the Umshyrpi in Dhobighat, Rilbong, here on Saturday.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh immersed the ashes in presence of Cabinet Minister AL Hek, party in charge Nalin Kohli and other leaders and workers as religious hymns were chanted.
Party workers raised slogans when the asthi kalash (urn carrying the ashes) was being brought to the river.
Speaking to media persons, Kohli said the party would discuss if it should raise the matter of naming some roads or building some assets after Vajpayee with various state governments.
“I do feel something should be done in different parts of the country to commemorate his memory and keep alive the values which Vajpayee cherished,” Kohli said.
Praising his initiatives, Kohli reiterated that Vajpayee developed infrastructure in the form of national highways and PM rural road project and also set up the DoNER Ministry.
“Vajpayee was loved across the country… he loved North East and every part of India,” he added.
