TURA: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will submit his resignation as Member of Parliament representing Tura Lok Sabha seat before September 10, informed party leaders.
“The chief minister will resign from Parliament either in the first week of September or before the tenth of the month,” said adviser to the chief minister and North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma while speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday.
According to the NPP leader, the chief minister had planned to put in his papers in Parliament much earlier but due to the hectic schedule ahead of the by-poll it was deferred till next month.
Conrad left Tura for Shillong on Tuesday afternoon after meeting scores of his supporters and well-wishers who thronged his residence to congratulate him on his maiden victory from South Tura.
On victory day, the residence of the chief minister at Walbakgre, less than 3 km from his father PA Sangma’s house, was choc a bloc with supporters throughout the day.
Meanwhile, newly elected UDP legislator from Ranikor, Pius Marwein is expected to be accommodated soon in a government position following his victory in the by-election.
The young UDP leader defeated seasoned politician and five-time legislator Martin M Danggo of the NPP to win the Ranikor seat in South West Khasi Hills.
“There are several posts under the government, including chairmanships, which are still to be filled up. He (Pius) will be given a position, after all, the UDP is an alliance partner of the MDA government headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma,” said Thomas to a query on accommodating the new legislator.
