Guwahati: As many as 42 RCC structures were demolished during an eviction drive in the Jorabat area by the Kamrup metropolitan district administration on Thursday.
The drive was carried out to clear a roadside drain in the area near the Assam-Meghalaya border.
A team of district administration along with officials of National Highways Authority of India carried out the drive against the illegal encroachment over the drain.
The eviction drive took place beneath the Jorabat Flyover and Ambher area.The approach of Shyam Cock and S. M. Global Cock Pvt. Ltd.was also demolished by the team.
Along with the eviction the drain parallel to the NH 37 was cleared and dug up to 28 feet. An area of 200 metres beneath the over bridge and six to seven bighas in Ambher were made encroachment free.
Besides, an area measuring 4 katha land encroached by S.M. Global Cock Pvt. Ltd was also cleared. Due to encroachment on the drain, the water bearing capacity of the drain was decreased resulting in artificial floods in the area. The eviction will resume on Friday.
