48 named in chargesheet filed in Karbi Anglong lynching of two Guwahati youths

GUWAHATI:   Assam police on Saturday  filed a chargesheet against 48 people who were allegedly involved in the mob-lynching of two Guwahati youths at Panjuri under Dokmoka police station in Central Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on June 8 last.

 

The two Guwahati youths–Nilotpal Das, 29, and Abhijit Nath, 30,–were lynched by a mob at Panjuri suspecting them to be child lifters while they were returning from nearby Kansi Langso waterfall in the district.

 

Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia said the 844-page chargesheet along with around 900 supporting documents had been filed against 48 people at Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)’s court in Diphu, the district headquarter of Karbi Anglong district.

 

“After carrying out proper investigation into the lynching, we have filed a chargesheet against 48 people at CJM’s court. The chargesheet contains 844 pages and we have submitted around more than 900 pages of related documents in the court,” Saikia said briefing reporters here.

 

He said the Karbi Anglong police, who are investigating into the case, were able to submit the chargsheet on time. The chargesheet has been  filed under different sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 302, 341, 427, 143, 144, 147, 148, and 149 besides 109 of CRPC.
