SHILLONG: The decision regarding the appointment of new DGP is pending with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
An official source said on Friday that all the requirements have been completed by the state government and it is up to the UPSC to take the next move.
The state government has already sent the reports related to the aspiring candidates for the post of DGP to the UPSC.
The DG Civil Defence and Home Guards, R Awasthi, who took over as the temporary DGP will retire by the end of September.
It was on July 30, a day before DGP SB Singh was to retire that the state government had filed a petition before the Supreme Court to explore the possibility of appointing an acting DGP.
The government had urged the Apex Court to modify its July 3 order prohibiting the appointment of any acting DGP.
As per the July 3 order, the appointment of a full-fledged DGP will have to be made by the UPSC.
On July 30, the Supreme Court had asked the UPSC to finalise the recommended names sent by the state government for the appointment of a permanent DGP within four weeks.
