SHILLONG: It is more than one and a half years since the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Tura was completed, but it has remained a non-starter.
The project was completed in May-June last year but till now there is no word from the Urban Affairs department as to what is the fate of the massive bus terminus.
It is learnt that the West Garo Hills district administration last year had submitted a concept note on the bus terminus to the Transport Department but what is leading to the delay in making the ISBT functional is not yet known.
An official said that if there is any word from the Government, the district administration will take necessary action to make the terminus functional.
The Centre had sanctioned Rs 45 crore for the project that covered 90 per cent of the total cost and the Tura ISBT will accommodate 50 buses at a time plying to and from all corners of the state to West Garo Hills town. The terminus is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in Tura town.
