SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has ordered reopening of Nartiang Durga temple.
During the hearing of the matter on Thursday, K.Paul, counsel for the petitioners submitted that the respondents, the Acting Dolloi and the Headman, Nartiang, West Jaintia Hills had locked the Nartiang Durga Temple.
“ I am shocked that in a secular country how these individuals have the authority to lock the temple and stop the performance of puja which is highly inappropriate and unacceptable. Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District is hereby directed to unlock the door of the temple immediately without any further delay of even a minute and allow puja to be performed there”, Judge SR Sen said in his order.
The DC was also directed to provide security in the temple and to the priest performing the puja with immediate effect.
The respondents have been asked to appear in person before the Court.
The matter will be heard again on Friday.
